Some “Web Designers” aren’t designers

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Florida is filled to the top of web designers that come to the sunshine state for the all year round warm weather. I have gotten tons of emails from people just out of college looking for more freelance work, or emails from just any one claiming to be a web designer. I am always interested in what they have to offer hoping that one day I will find something i haven’t seen before. Sadly I am always disappointed in the results. Some web designers aren’t designers at all! They think because they know html, or PHP that they can build you a world class site, for sometimes 10 times less than you would pay at a professional web design firm. But before you go spending that hard earned money on these fly by night designers, you need to look at the true aspects of design.  Things like color matching, pictures and fonts. These are just a few things that separates the good from the bad.

Next time you are thinking of going with a web designer, make sure you go with a actual designer too! It will make the difference in how your clients see your business.

Turkey, stuffing and spam

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

holiday turkey icon

Thanksgiving is tomorrow and we all know that its going to be a day full of food and enjoyment with friends and family.  Golden brown turkey, stuffing and probably still a few of you enjoy a nice can of spam.  But since we are computer geeks you know what crosses my mind when you talking about stuffing and spam… Yes you got it, keywords.  People think so highly of them selves when they show me their website and it has all of their keywords stuffed all behind the scenes, hidden on the bottom of the page in the same color as the background. It is just a horrible way to try and rank. These black hat seo techniques are what keep websites from ranking well and even getting blacklisted with google and other major search engines.

So tomorrow remember that stuffing and spam go well with turkey, just keep them away from your website.

Keeping it real at db Tech Design, your florida seo web design firm.

Optimizing your site for Keywords and Major Search Engines

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Today, website and webpage indexing is completed by large search engines such as Google and Yahoo.  These search engines scan your website and webpages for keywords and phrases, and quality content; before attaching a ranking to them.

This ranking is extremely important to online businesses as it determines the hit count, or how many people visit the website or webpage, by placement of the page.  The lower your website or webpage is listed on the page, the fewer the number of hits by visitors are obtained.  The ideal place to be located on the page is number one, of course, but anywhere between one and five is good, as most people will read the top five listings for information, trying to obtain unbiased content.

Although most search engines these days do not optimize your website or webpage by keywords there are still some smaller ones that do.  Therefore, when setting up keywords in your website or webpage Meta Tag, you should also ensure that those same keywords appear in the content; otherwise, the search engines could flag you as not being reputable and reduced your website or webpage indexed ranking.

When using keywords in your content to attract the search engine spiders to your website, a good rule of thumb is to keep your keyword saturation a minimum as not to appear as being “blacklisted” as a spammer.

If you’re unsure about keywords and indexing your business would be wise to hire the services of a web design company that specializes in SEO (search engine optimization). So before you go spaming up your website with the wrong keywords. Give us a call today and we can help you out! 407-572-5026

How to choose a The Best Gateway and Merchant Account

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Choosing the best gateway and merchant accounts is not a simple task, but you can start to make a list of the things you will need for your site before signing up.

First what are you planning to sell?

Many merchant accounts and gateways have sets of rules to follow and terms and conditions. You want to find out what these are and read through them before signing up to a gateway or merchant account. We recently had a company that was contacted by their merchant account and was told that it was against policy to sell a 7 out of of 4500 items on their website. This is not a big deal, but it still takes a few more hours and dollars to fix the problem that could have been fixed by reading through the 10 pages of terms by the merchant account.

Then who is the best merchant account?

It depends o:

  • What you are selling
  • if you need reoccurring payments
  • What spam filters for payments you will need
  • How much do you want to pay per transaction?

All  of these factors come into play when choosing a gateway and merchant account.

So what are the top gateway and merchant account companies?

In no particular order:

  • Authorize.net
  • Paypal
  • Paypal Payments pro
  • 2Checkout
  • Your local bank ( always check where you bank, as they may have a online solution)

So there you have it! I hope this can get you started on your way to buying online! If you need any help give the custom e-commerce web design guys a call today!

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Is it done yet? Wheres my updates? Why is it taking so long?

These are generic questions that clients will ask of their web designers but never get a answer that they want to hear back! We all know that web design firms are busy, everyones busy! These clients are usually looking for some sort of contract and literally scared of being left yet again in the dust after making a lump sum payment for a website.

But don’t worry , at db tech design we only offer top notch web design service and support. We can help you build or maintain your site or even fix a previous bad web design project. So next time you are frustrated with your tardy web designer, get in contact with the  professional web design firm of orlando florida today!
